Knowing when to get help for your child is so hard!
When children are struggling with depression and anxiety, it is often hard to tell what exactly is happening. It might look like withdrawal, challenges at school, irritability, aggression or major temper tantrums. It can be unpredictable! Children often don't yet have the language to communicate how they are feeling, so they communicate what is happening on the inside through their behavior and parents often feel that they have tried EVERYTHING to address the behaviors to end the cycle of negative feedback that their child is stuck in. It can be such an isolating and helpless feeling.
WE CAN HELP!
A child's behavior is not who they are and is not a reflection of your parenting skills. It is often symptomatic of an internal or mental struggle. Both you and your child deserve empathy, someone who will work to understand your child's unique needs, and support you in creating and implementing an effective treatment plan to restore your child's health and happiness. Studies show that treatment interventions are most successful during the first few years after symptoms appear. While your child is young their brain is growing, forming new connections each day, making them more responsive to change!
The treatment modalities we use will depend wholly on your child. We may use cognitive behavioral therapy to help your child reframe their thoughts and learn how thinking patterns impact behavior, play therapy to support your child in working through and expressing underlying emotions or challenges, or mindfulness to develop tools and coping strategies that will help them increase their functioning both at home and at school. We believe that we are a team and will work on individualized strategies that can be implemented to support your child in every area of their life. If ever something seems not to be working for your child, we will work together to find a more effective approach to restore your child's happiness!
If you have been on the fence about whether or not your child is in need of more support, give us a call for a free 15 minute consultation. We can help and you do not have to do it alone!
